What is Americano in padel?
Americano is a padel format where players rotate and switch partners between every round. Points are counted individually, so it's the single player, not a fixed team, who wins the tournament. The format is designed to let everyone play with and against as many different people as possible.
That makes Americano perfect for club nights, corporate events, meeting new people and mixed skill levels, because you get both strong and weaker partners during the night, things naturally even out.
The basic format
- Number of players: always a multiple of 4 (4, 8, 12, 16, 20 …).
- Number of rounds: depends on the field, typically 5–7 rounds.
- Points per round: commonly first to 16, 21 or 24 points.
- Time limit: alternatively, timed rounds (e.g. 12 minutes each).
- Rotation: new partners and opponents every round on a preset schedule.
How scoring works
In Americano each player collects their own points, not the team's. If you play to 21 and your pair wins 21–15, you get 21 points and each opponent gets 15. Next round you switch partners and keep adding to your personal total.
When all rounds are done, totals are compared and the player with the highest sum wins. Second and third place are usually awarded too.
Example, 8 players, 7 rounds to 21 points:
Max per round is 21, so 7 × 21 = 147 max in total. A winner typically lands at 130–140 points, a mid-table player around 100, and someone who lost several rounds around 80.
Schedule and rotation
The hardest part of Americano is usually building a fair schedule, so everyone plays with and against as many different people as possible, without facing the same person too often.

Common Americano variants
Classic Americano
Fixed schedule, everyone meets everyone through the rotation. The most common and social variant.
Timed Americano
Rounds run by the clock (e.g. 12 min) rather than points. Great when court slots are fixed.
Level-based Americano
