A guide to padel levels in Sweden: how the 1–10 scale works, how to rate yourself accurately and how to raise your rating on Padelpoolen.
What does padel rating mean?
Padel rating is used to match players with equal opponents. In Sweden several scales are in use, the Swedish Padel Federation runs a competition ranking, while communities and matchmaking apps usually use a simpler scale. On Padelpoolen we use a 1–10 level: you start by rating yourself and your level is then adjusted automatically based on how other players rate you after matches.
The 1–10 level scale
You are brand new or have played a few times. Focus is on getting the ball over the net, understanding the court and the basic rules.
You handle longer rallies, start to understand positioning and can use the glass sometimes. Volley and serve are still developing.
You play with a structured pair tactic, control glass play well, vary the tempo and can finish balls at the net.
You play at local competition level. Solid bandeja, vibora and tactical choices. You can read your opponent and control the match.
You play at a high competition level, national, divisional or international. Every shot works and you control the match mentally and tactically.
Self-rating vs "Your level by others"
When you create your Padelpoolen account you set your own level. After each match opponents and partners can rate you, this becomes your "Your level by others" which is often more accurate than your self-rating. The average of the two is used for matchmaking.
How to raise your padel rating
- Play against players at or slightly above your level, that drives improvement.
- Always ask opponents to rate you after matches so your level stays fair.
- Train the serve, glass play, bandeja and vibora, the shots that separate level 5 from 7.
- Win matches, your Match ELO on Padelpoolen updates automatically.
- Play Americano tournaments, they give more data points and faster calibration.

FAQ
What is a good padel level in Sweden?
The average player is between level 3 and 5. From level 6 and up you're considered an experienced competition player at club level.
Do padel ratings differ between apps?
Yes, Matchi, Playtomic and Padelpoolen use different scales and algorithms. Level 5 in one community does not automatically equal level 5 in another.
Can my level go down?
Yes. Your ELO is adjusted after every match and other players' ratings can lower your "Your level by others" if you overrated yourself.
